We REALLY DO listen to your requests! Check out the new Data-Viewer Web Part....

Many of you may have tried out our new Data-Viewer Web Part. It came out in March and lets you do a lot of cool stuff through your browser rather than resorting to a data view and SharePoint Designer. One of the neat features is the ability to nest information from a related list in the grid display. For example, in the picture below I show a list of Projects with information about the project title, project manager, and status. If I expand a project, I see a list of tasks related to the project. The nested list has a completely different set of columns displayed.

You could use web part connections to display information from related lists on the same page, but using the Data-Viewer Web Part saves a lot of screen real estate that you could use for other things.

Well, some of our favorite customers were quick to try this cool new web part out. Unfortunately, they revealed a limitation that we hadn't considered for the first version. They want to nest related information from two different lists but their lists are NOT related via a lookup field. Version 1.0 of the Data-Viewer Web Part required that nested information be related to the "master" list via a lookup field. Our friends couldn't go back and rebuild their lists - they had lots of data in them already! They called for help and Bamboo delivered.

Version 1.1 of our Data-Viewer Web Part was released today. With it, the list containing the nested information does not have to be related to the master list via a lookup field.

So it just goes to show - Bamboo really does believe in community-driven development and we do listen carefully to your feedback! Keep it coming! Smile
