Running Visual Studio 2008 extensions for SharePoint 1.3 CTP on Vista

As you all know Microsoft recently released the CTP of VSeWSS 1.3 and I'm happy to announce that if you are running WSS or MOSS on your Vista x64 dev box you can now install and use VSeWSS 1.3 on Vista (or the Windows 7 Beta).

UPDATE:
You should download the February 2009 CTP from here and you don't have to manually run msiexec. The elevation "problem" described below has been fixed in this release.

Check out  Paul Andrews post here on how to download it, and make sure to give MS some feedback.

Make sure to start the msi from an elevated command prompt, the installer has a custom action that requires elevation and with UAC enabled this custom action will fail unless you do it. Here is some more info on this subject.

elevated

Here's the result; MOSS running on Windows 7 x64 with VSeWSS 1.3

Jonas, hi!

I've got some difficulties installing VSeS 1.3 on Winfows 7.

Details here

Any thoughts how I can fight this? :)

Bong,

I successfully installed it on Windows7 x64.

The one thing to keep in mind is to launch an elevated command prompt and manually execute msiexec.exe /i "fullpath to msi"

This is becuase of UAC and that the installer is executing a custom action that requires elevation.

Thanks

/Jonas

Hi,

i tried to install the sharepoint extension 1.3 March CTP and the February CTP on my Windows 7 x64.

Both doesn't work:

"Visual Studio 2008 extensions for Windows Sharepoint Services version 1.3 Setup Wizard ended prematurely because of an error..."

Entry in Event Viewer:

"Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: Visual Studio 2008 extensions for Windows SharePoint Services version 1.3. Product Version: 12.0.4518.1092. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation. Installation success or error status: 1603."

I reinstalled Visual Studio and SP1, but it still doesn't work...

Any idea?

Andreas,

Can you turn on verbose logging t get the error.

Follow this post.

You need to run msiexec from an elevated command prompt as described here:

Thank you for your response.

I think the problem is not the elevated command prompt, cause i tried the february CTP and this problem was fixed in the february CTP.

I extracted the .msi out of the executable and tried the msiexec command. Doesn't work too.

But in the MSI.LOG, i found the following error:

"DEBUG: Error 2896:  Executing action getAppPoolsCustomAction failed."

Any idea about this?
