Viewing the Site Hierarchy in a Single Location!

As sort of a continuation of my post from last week, do you have a very elaborate list of sites and sub-sites?  Have you ever wanted to view these sites in a single location?  Have you ever wanted a quick view of who created which sites and when?  Well, do I have an answer for you!  Our popular Tree View Web Part comes with many faces, from Wiki Page support, to Discussion support (I will be covering this next week Smile), to Document Libraries, so why not view list hierarchies too?!

After installing the fully functional 15-day free trial, simply configure the tool pane by enabling one single option: Display site navigation

Easy, right?  I'd like to think so. Cool

So what does this actually do, you might ask?  Well, depending on the site the Web Part is currently sitting on, it defines the initial root node:

You will notice in my example above (please excuse the site names, I am on a small test server now) several things:

  • Difference between Sites and Workspaces is defined based on the icon just like SharePoint site listings.
  • You have the ability to walk through your hierarchy by expanding and collapsing the nodes.

When you click on a given Parent Node (in my example below, I selected Test A), you will notice that the right panel updates with details about the immediate sub-sites of that parent node.

So you might be asking, what is up with the Create button?  (Well, maybe not, but it provided a nice transition for me Geeked)  Depending on the selected node, when you click Create you are actually creating a new sub-site for that selected node, not the site where the Web Part is sitting, providing for quick site creation without a lot of additional navigation.

If this product has caught your eye, give it a try (like my rhyme?).  Visit the Tree View Web Part product page and click Add Trial To Cart in the upper right hand corner for a fully functional 15-day free Trial Download of Tree View.
