You want me to navigate a document library folder structure with breadcrumbs? Isn't that what you put on a casserole??

If you have used SharePoint Document Libraries with folders, you are bound to have encountered a very limiting feature called Breadcrumbs.  Breadcrumbs are a popular navigational construct that helps users know where they are, and how they got there.  With SharePoint Document Libraries, when you click on a folder, the breadcrumb expands to include the folder you are currently in.  In my example below, my breadcrumb trail tells me that I am currently in the site Test A within the document library Shared Documents and I am currently sitting in the nested folder HW03 - Tree View Web Part within the folder Bamboo Solutions.

Now I know there is another folder within the Bamboo Solutions directory that I want to get to called HW05 - Alert Plus Web Part.  So I have to know that I should click on the breadcrumb Bamboo Solutions to see all folders in this directory first

Now I can click on the folder HW05 - Alert Plus Web Part to view my files in that folder -

But how many people even know what a breadcrumb is?  If you are like me, you are more comfortable getting around with a physical folder structure showing nestings, providing easy pathing from one folder to another..  That's where the Tree View Web Part comes in!  Just imagine the ability to see in a left frame the entire Document Library folder structure at your fingertips. Big Smile  Ability to expand and collapse folders with a single click.  Ability to jump from one folder to another by just clicking on a folder name then seeing the items in a frame to the right?  No more page refreshing,  no more guessing the correct parent directory, no more *cringe* browser back button!

Let me give you a little visual taste of what Tree View Web Part looks like with Document Libraries -

Remember earlier when we had to click on the breadcrumb Bamboo Solutions just to view the HW05 - Alert Plus Web Part folder?  Now I can simply click the node HW05 - Alert Plus Web Part without jumping from page to page.

And guess what... This works for lists that use folders too!  Yup that's right, if you have folders enabled for SharePoint Lists, why not leave the breadcrumbs for what they are meant for, casserole dish toppings, and navigate folders the way they are meant to be navigated, in a tree!

Visit the Tree View Web Part product page and click Add Trial To Cart in the upper right hand corner for a full functional 15-day Trial Download of Tree View Web Part.
