Announcing the SharePoint Filters Collection – 5 Web Parts that... Filter Stuff

The capabilities of the Filter Web Parts provided in MOSS are great – not so much so if you are just running WSS.  Our newest product, the SharePoint Filters Collection, puts the power of MOSS Filter Web Parts into everyone’s reach.  It doesn’t matter if you are running MOSS, WSS or even SharePoint!  Ahem, did I say SharePoint?  Ok, I got a little excited there… you do still need SharePoint.

The Bamboo SharePoint Filters Collection allows you to provide high-end on-the-fly filtering to your SharePoint pages.  There is no need to set up a large number of List Views to target content to your end users.  Use the SharePoint Filters Collection to provide custom filtering interfaces that access values that include everything from the current date to the currently logged in user’s profile.  With the SharePoint Filters Collection, your users will spend less time sorting enormous lists or watching hundreds of items eat up precious screen real estate.  Allow them to get to the data they need instantly - without having to wade through pages of items.

Five Web Parts are included in the SharePoint Filters Collection.  The first four Web Parts are standard filters. The Choice, Date, Text, and Current User filters work almost exactly the same as they do in MOSS Enterprise;  simply add the Filter to a page, and create a standard Web Part connection between the Filter and the Web Part to be filtered.  After setting a few basic column options, the Filter Web Part can be used to drive the data displayed in the connected Web Part.

The fifth Web Part in the Collection, the Bamboo List Filter Web Part, is slightly different; it is specifically designed to connect to a List View Web Part. Once you've established a connection, configure the filter by adding as many filter columns as you'd like, and ordering them as you see fit. The Web Part will automatically detect many column types, and provide the appropriate interface for users to enter values with (drop downs, date pickers, people pickers, etc.).
