The Victoria School Board (School District 61) has established SharePoint as a strategic platform and framework for the future. As such, when the requirement came to build a browser based Kiosk for staff at the various grade levels (elementary, secondary, etc.) to obtain and share knowledge, SharePoint was an obvious choice.
The key design goals for the Kiosk were:
- Easy to use and navigate
- The ability to find knowledge by filter (category) and search
- Easy for staff to enter new content, quickly
- Maintain a consistent look/brand and limit access to standard collaborative SharePoint features (keep it as a simple Kiosk)

How we (itgroove) did it & how Bamboo helped
itgroove (www.itgroove.net) was contracted to develop the underlying SharePoint customization. Although the overall SharePoint platform is based on Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS), the entire Kiosk functionality was achieved by utilizing only Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 (WSS) functionality and the Bamboo Lookup Selector Web Part.
Due to the volume of categories necessary to organize content and the Business Requirements of ensuring speed and ease of new content entry (and search/filtering), the Bamboo Lookup Selector fit the bill. By ensuring accurate category and subcategory selection (based on the Category, a series of subcategories, related to the master Category were presented), new knowledge content could be added quickly, easily and accurately.
