MashPoint - Data Integration for SharePointDownload the official MashPoint release, available as of November 7th, 2008.

Jonas Nilsson Q&A

On a MOSS platform, you can:

  • Use an existing BDC Application Definition file to access data from the business data source.
  • Use the Bamboo Data-Viewer Web Part, the Bamboo Virtual Map View Web Part or the Bamboo Silverlight Media Player to access and display data from either BDC or MashPoint.
  • Use any existing application that consumes data from the BDC to consume data from MashPoint.  You must recompile the application with the MashPoint library.
  • Use the "Action" method to write custom actions which will provide the ability to update external data sources.
  • Use the MashPoint Business Data Column to create a custom column in any SharePoint List to access and display LOB data.
  • Use Bamboo Single Sign-On (SSO) to manage user account credentials in the appropriate security context.  Bamboo SSO provides a central database which maintains a mapping between a user -or group of users- and the credentials (username and password) needed to access a data source on the network.

On a WSS v3.0, you can

  • Do everything listed above!

By now we hope you are beginning to imagine some of the powerful applications possible with MashPoint.  But just in case, let's walk through some basic use cases and work through some concrete examples:

Use Case #1:  Installing the AdventureWorks sample in MashPoint.

Use Case #2:  Installing the Amazon Web Service sample in MashPoint.

Use Case #3:  Writing a custom Data Provider for MashPoint.

Use Case #4:  How to write custom code against the MashPoint runtime model.

Use Case #5: Using the MashPoint Business Data Column in SharePoint Lists.

Use Case #6:  An Introduction to Bamboo Single Sign-On (SSO) with MashPoint.
