Apple's iPhone Making Progress In The Enterprise Market? (Silicon Alley Insider)
Some of the biggest changes Apple made to its iPhone software in version 2.0 were made with corporate buyers in mind. Stuff like support Microsoft's Exchange email platform, virtual private networks, security features, enterprise apps, etc.
The Great Office Server Smorgasbord, Part 1: Office SharePoint Server 2007 (InfoWorld)
2005. A good year made more pleasant because we were still living under certain illusions. For one, we thought Paris Hilton headlines were in a decline. I was still 39 and therefore didn't have to worry about not being married. And Microsoft leaked that Office 2007 was going to have "a server component." Foolish technology journalists that we are, we assumed this meant 'a' server. As in one. As in single. As in my Friday night.
Google Gmail, Google Apps Are Not Enterprise Ready (eWeek)
Google Gmail and Google Apps went dark this past week, creating a firestorm of fury among those using the messaging and collaboration software to communicate or use one of their key enterprise applications. What does it mean when your hosted infrastructure collapses? Analysts from IDC, Forrester Research, Ferris Research and Burton Group weigh in with their thoughts on what the outages mean for Google and the SAAS/cloud computing space at large.
Internet Research Group Publishes Research Study on Microsoft SharePoint (Earth Times)
Internet Research Group (IRG) today announced the release of its latest report on the network infrastructure, "Microsoft SharePoint (takes over the world)." With the 2007 version Microsoft SharePoint has clearly achieved critical mass and is a billion dollar product line with more than 100M seat licenses sold. New Product - BDC Alert Manager (SharePointNick)
Phill at Lightning Tools has been working away at a new product that we've released in beta yesterday - the Lightning Tools BDC Alert Manager. We've had quite a few people asking for functionality like this - you can kinda setup BDC alerts using lists and the Business Data Column - but of course with the BDC Data Column not being a live lookup to your LOB System the alerts are only ever going to be fired once you click the little refresh button.
SharePoint Single Sign-on Service (SSO) (Ian's SharePoint Blog)
Now that WSSDemo.com is running in a Hyper-v multi-server farm, SharePoint features such as the BDC and Data Form web part can't use Integrated security SQL access without configuring Kerberos. Many of my customers don't want to enable this (for whatever reason, fear of the unknown is my guess) just for the sake of SharePoint so I decided to try out SharePoint's SSO service to solve this problem on WSSDemo.com (and because I'm chicken and don't want to change the current web app authentication mode).
SharePoint Workflow Guidance and Best Practices (SharePoint Content and Resources)
I had a question today about SharePoint Workflow "Dos and Don'ts" and I thought it might be a good idea to share the response more broadly. I'm also working on compiling a list of Best Practices for Custom Application Development in SharePoint, which will be published next month on MSDN as part of a larger MSDN/TechNet series on the subject of guidance and best practices. Stay tuned for updates...
Microsoft Search Community Toolkit (Michael Gannotti on SharePoint +)
My buddy Adam Morgan shot me this link last night. Out on Codeplex there is a wealth of search add-on's for Microsoft search technologies (SharePoint/FAST). While I am cross posting their existing list of samples and tools this is a growing list so you really need to head over there yourself, mark this page in your favorites (or add to your links on your own SharePoint MySite ), and then check in on it from time to time.
