Office 2010, the next version of Microsoft's successful office programs suite, has been in closed testing for a while now. With a public beta expected later in the year, development is stepping up before the program, previously dubbed Office 14, is finally let out into the wild. Earlier this year we posted some screenshots of alpha builds of Word and Excel, and just over a week ago Zack Whittaker posted some new screenshots on his iGeneration blog.

BizTalk 2009 Arrives, Office 2007 SP2 Up Next (Internet News)
With all the excitement surrounding the pending release of Windows 7, it's easy to forget that Microsoft makes many products, most of which need to be updated from time to time. And while they may not grab the limelight, millions of users depend on these applications in the enterprise. For instance, Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) confirmed that it will ship Office 2007 Service Pack 2 (SP2), as planned, today. Additionally, Microsoft released BizTalk Server 2009 yesterday.

Windows 7 Will Have 'XP Mode' (ZDNet)
For some time now, the company has been quietly building a 'Windows XP Mode' that uses virtualisation to allow Windows 7 to easily run applications designed for Windows XP. According to sources familiar with the product, the application compatibility mode is built on the Virtual PC technology that Microsoft acquired in 2003, when it scooped up the assets of Connectix. By adding the compatibility mode, Microsoft is aiming to address one of the key shortcomings of Windows Vista: its compatibility issues with software designed for Windows XP and earlier versions of the operating system.

IE 8: Its Security Is Worth the Download (The Washington Post)
Microsoft released Internet Explorer 8 in March, and whether to install it is likely your biggest update decision right now. The browser has plenty of new security features, such as expanded phishing-site blocking of known malware distributors. IE 8 also highlights the domain name in the URLs you visit, making it easier to recognize a phishing scam.

CAC Enabled Anonymous SharePoint Sites (SharePoint Shelter)
If you worked/have worked or plan on working within the DoD environment, security will be a subject that haunts your dreams. Not that security isn’t prevalent in the private sector, but given the nature of our work security is a top priority if not the number one priority. That being said, I have been working with the DoD’s PKI for the past few years so I am fully aware of the scope and implications of providing a secure computing environment. Recently I was tasked with bringing all of our publicly available servers to a secure standard.

SharePoint 2010: What We Know and What We Want (Ferrara Data Consulting)
Since the announcing of SharePoint 2010 this month, the community has been buzzing with what we know about ‘10 and what we are still speculating about ‘10. The MOSS Summary Link Web Part (Part 1) (SharePoint Blank)
You know how I mentioned during my interview with Rob Bogue that I had realized while reading his book that there were a few basic SharePoint tasks that I hadn't documented in this blog, and that I'd have to circle back and fill in those gaps?  Well, this isn't one of those posts, but it's related in that it was while reading The SharePoint Shepherd's Guide for End Users that I learned of the existence of a new-to-me and quite nifty little Web Part: the Summary Link Web Part.

I have been using the tools that are built into this Bamboo project management application for over a year now and LOVE it. Guess what -- an even better version of this application will be made available to you in a month or so. This new product is called SharePoint Project Management Central. Keep an eye on our storefront or better yet set an alert or sign up to receive our monthly E-News.
