'Google Wave' May Challenge Microsoft SharePoint (Information Week)
Google on Thursday demonstrated its new Wave communication and collaboration platform at its conference in San Francisco, prompting spontaneous applause and a standing ovation by developers. Google Wave is a product, platform, and protocol that combines aspects of e-mail, instant messaging, wikis, and blogs to allow real-time and stored collaborative messaging. It's being made available as a technology preview to conference attendees. Most of the code is open source, and Google hopes that developers will extend the system and run their own Wave servers as part of a federated network.

Rogue Wave: New Google Software Will Challenge Microsoft (Channel Web)
Google's new Wave is generating raves. Wave is Google's new collaboration and communications software that combines aspects of e-mail, instant messaging, document sharing, blogging and wikis in a single application.

Live With The Google Wave Creators (Tech Crunch)
We’re here in the press room at Google I/O for the follow-up press event to the Google Wave unveiling today during the keynote. The initial audience response to Google Wave was huge; there was a standing ovation the likes of which I haven’t seen at a tech event, including the Apple events in recent years.

Microsoft Goes Bing! and Scares the Bejeezus out of Google (CNET)
It's official: Bing.com is Microsoft's new Web search, and gosh it's fun to say. Bing! Instead of presenting you with a list of links, Bing is designed to work out what you were thinking and organise your results into handy categories. Could it be any less like Google?

Industry Sceptical About Microsoft's Bing (VNUNet)
The response to Microsoft unveiling its new Bing search engine has come with a heavy sense of 'wait and see' in regards to how well it will compete with Google. With Microsoft reportedly set to spend $100m on a promotional campaign for the launch, it clearly has a lot of weight to throw behind this new technology, both in terms of brand and budget.

Are Microsoft and OpenDocument Getting on the Same Page? (eWeek)
The state of file format compatibility across a range of different applications has come a long way in the past few years, as vendors such as Microsoft and OpenOffice.org have made progress toward addressing file format compatibility.

Windows 7 Build 7137 Leaked (Windows 7 News)
It was a bit quiet after the release of the Windows 7 RC by Microsoft which somewhat seemed to have stilled the hunger for Windows 7 leaks. Up to now only one pre-RC leak with the build number 7127 was distributed through various P2P protocols and other means of distribution.

Microsoft: Vista's Enterprise Momentum will 'Accrue' for Windows 7 (Network World)

SharePoint Content Type, Document Template and Default Metadata Choice in Custom DIP (Ian's SharePoint Blog)
Something new that I did today... Scenario
A Document library with metadata column for DocumentType.
There are about 20 document types in the lookup and a site collection field that references this list.
A Base Content Type that includes this lookup field
5 Content Types that inherit from the base
Not all of the document types have an Office template which is why there are fewer content types.

24 Minute Screencast: SharePoint Designer Workflow, Part 6 of 5 (End User SharePoint)
Does this guy ever sleep? This is the sixth screencast in a five part series on SharePoint Designer Workflow, produced by Bjørn’s of the USP Journal. Yes, that’s right… the 6th in a 5 part series. Go figure. If you have seen previous issues of the journal, you know how well it’s done and you might want to just go directly to Bjorn’s site and purchase the issue, Number 4 on SharePoint Designer Workflow.

Who has what Checked Out? (SharePoint Blogs)
It happens everywhere, I suppose. It's close to noon and we are all wondering if we oughtn't get some work done this morning, when somebody asks "Whatever happened to Jonesy?" To be honest for once, I hadn't noticed, and the few who had assume he hasn't returned yet from his annual vacation at Snakentick State Park. Nobody wants to wake the Boss, and the security guys just shift their eyes back and forth like Susanna Hoffs in a long loo queue, so finally someone else grabs the short straw and takes Cheryl from HR to a long lunch. He returns bleary-eyed, to report that Jonesy won't be needing his office chair anymore. I can't go into the details, but if you can explain how the video can be considered an allowable business expense, we'll give you your camera back.

Watch this: Use Word 2007 to Post to a SharePoint Blog (Windows SharePoint Services)
When you use Word 2007 to create a blog post on a SharePoint site, you can check your spelling and format your text the way you are used to doing in Word. Additionally, Word makes it easy to include images in your post. In this demo, I'll show you how to use Word 2007 to create a post for a SharePoint blog, check spelling, format text, insert hyperlinks, insert images, and publish the post to the blog. I hope you find it helpful.

Working with SharePoint Lists, Part 2 (Windows SharePoint Services)
This tutorial teaches you how to view information in lists based on Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services. It is the second of a two-part tutorial. In the first part, Working with SharePoint lists, Part 1, you learned the basic steps of creating a list, adding columns, and adding new list items. You should complete Part 1 before you take this tutorial. In this tutorial, you will continue to use the example of your team's visit to Trey Research to learn how to sort and filter list items so you can find and manage information more easily. You also learn how to create a view so that you can specify more advanced display settings and save them.
