A Week Using Google Wave: The Early Verdict (Tech Radar)
We've spent seven days using Google's new great hope for online communication – Google Wave. But even after a couple of days attempting to use it, one question was prominent in our mind – what exactly is Google Wave for? Now, it's important to note that the 100,000 or so people currently on the service are only using a mere 'Preview' version, while there are numerous bugs and limited functionality.
Windows 7 Critical Holes Fixed in Record Patch Tuesday (CNET)
Microsoft released a record number of 13 bulletins for 34 vulnerabilities on Patch Tuesday--and the first critical update for Windows 7--as well as fixes for zero-day flaws involving Server Message Block (SMB) and Internet Information Services (IIS). The most severe of the three SMB flaws, which were first reported last month, could allow an attacker to take control of a computer remotely by sending a specially crafted SMB packet to a computer running the Server service. Exploit code for one of the SMB holes has been posted to the Web, Microsoft said.
Microsoft and Windows 7: A Family Guy Affair (Los Angeles Times)
Microsoft is trying a new spin on an old method to promote its new Windows 7 operating system this fall. Taking its inspiration from the old Texaco Star Theater -- television's first big hit, in the 1950s, with Milton Berle hosting a variety show and becoming a fixture in U.S. living rooms -- the computer giant is teaming with "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane to sponsor a variety show to air on the Fox network on Nov. 8.
Microsoft to Replace Works With 'Office 2010 Starter' (The Washington Post)
One of the older products in Microsoft's stable will be put out to pasture next year when the company ships the next version of its Office productivity suite: Microsoft Works, its low-end, somewhat-simplified bundle of word processing, spreadsheet, database and calendar tools.
Mozilla Joins Microsoft in Slamming Google Chrome Frame (Sitepoint)
This is a surprise. Mozilla has slammed Chrome Frame, the Google plugin that fixes Internet Explorer by providing the Chrome browser engine within the IE interface. Google decided that it was easier to create an IE plugin than make their new HTML5 applications backward-compatible with IE6, IE7 and IE8.
A Black Eye for Cloud Computing (DaniWeb)
To put it mildly, it's been a bad week for cloud computing. First of all word got out that Microsoft, the keepers of the data for users of Sidekick phones completely hosed the data. I mean kaput, gone, vanished. See you later, bye. If you don't have a back up, you are pretty much screwed because the keepers of the data have committed the ultimate sin and lost it. Meanwhile, the The Unofficial Apple Weblog reports that MobileMe might be having a data leak and letting people randomly see the contents of your address book. This is the kind of nightmare scenario that cloud computing naysayers always seem to bring up, but we quickly dismiss as not likely to happen. Well, it did happen and it happened twice in one week.
FCC Chief Seeks Broad Open-Internet Rules (The Wall Street Journal)
Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski is proposing that the agency apply tougher open-Internet rules broadly, raising concerns of cable and phone companies and some lawmakers that the government could try to control efforts to offer products such as digital cable or premium business services. Mr. Genachowski's proposal suggests everything in the Internet pipe is covered by rules prohibiting discrimination against any legal Internet traffic, known as net neutrality, unless the agency says otherwise, according to FCC officials familiar with a draft circulating in the agency.

There’s No Need to Argue, SharePoint Haters Just Don’t Understand (The SharePoint Hillbilly)
It’s time to become a Reformed SharePoint Hater! Do you know the number one problem with SharePoint? What one things stops SharePoint from living up to all that it promises??? People! People that aren't willing to take the time to learn the tool suite that they're presented with. From consultants and advisors who promise you that it will slice, dice, remove blood stains, and cure all that ails your organization to end users who dislike changing the way they work (even if it does make them more effective and efficient). The biggest obstacle to the success of SharePoint in your organization is the lack of vision and understanding by both those that you're building your SharePoint environment for and those actually implementing and configuring the SharePoint environment.
Do the SharePoint Dance! (SharePoint Joel's SharePoint Land)
One thing I *really* like about blogging is the debates that go on in the blogosphere. I love a good debate, as long as it doesn’t get personal. I mean come on. Your blog is your own, say what you want… we all live in the land of freedom of speech of the provided by the Internet. Does SharePoint Suck or does it rock?? Should we be comparing the product written 5 years ago to the latest open source or Google sites? I don’t think it’s fair, but the comparisons will continue. I do hope to have some of these open debates after SPC, when my tongue gets loosed.

This error (HTTP 500 Internal Server Error) means that the website you are visiting had a server problem which prevented the webpage from displaying. This error can occur on all web sites, even on central admin. The root page default.aspx does not display at all, instead this error is shown.
