Office 2010 Starting at $99; Microsoft's New Lenovo Tablet; Azure Almost Ready

Top News Stories Is $99 Too Much for Office 2010? (ZDNet) Have you used the beta of Office 2010? I have. It’s incredibly slick, well-done software. I really like Office 2007, but 2010, even in beta form (much as Windows 7 beta was to Vista) is a real leap ahead. The interface is polished and it has everything a power user could want, from Access to Word. Microsoft announced pricing for it today and, while volume licensing hasn’t been hammered out, the academic version of Office 2010 Professional looks to be running $99 a pop. Upgrade pricing won’t be available for current Office 2007 users.
Microsoft Touts New Lenovo Tablet (CNET) Microsoft, which has an obvious stake in the future of tablet PCs, is standing firmly behind a new tablet designed by IBM and supplied by China's Lenovo Group. The new X41 Tablet Series (X41T) is the first offering by Lenovo following its purchase of IBM's legendary PC business earlier this year. The device will be available June 14 directly through Lenovo and IBM, as well as through resellers.
Google's 10 Toughest Rivals (Network World) The biggest tech industry news story of the decade was undoubtedly the dramatic rise of Google. But will the search and online advertising juggernaut continue its dominance over the Internet economy in 2010? Not if the tech companies on our list can help it. Until now, Google's biggest frenemies were the traditional media: newspapers, magazines and TV stations that create online content Google searches and that buy online advertising from Google. But as its portfolio has grown to encompass more than 150 products -- including free, hosted versions of popular software applications -- Google has attracted an array of tech industry competitors.
Microsoft's 'Almost Ready' Azure Set for April Delivery? (The Register) Microsoft plans to start fully charging customers for use of its planned Azure cloud until the spring, it seems. The Windows Azure platform team has said it will be April when Microsoft starts charging for the components that comprise Azure’s AppFabric - the Service Bus that connects applications and services, and the Access Control system for federated log in by users.
Microsoft as Enabler (CTO Edge) There seems to be some interest in the online world stemming from an article that appeared on InformationWeek.com regarding the seven things Microsoft must do in 2010. As someone who lives and breathes Microsoft just about every day, I found this article extremely interesting, albeit a little uninspiring. Sure, some of the points it makes are extremely valid. Microsoft does have some uncertainty in the executive offices that needs to be cleared up, and it is way too concerned with floundering consumer electronics devices like the Zune. However, telling Microsoft to slash prices and extend its service offerings is not the solution.
Around the Blogosphere What the Office Team will be Talking About at CES (Microsoft Office 2010 Engineering) Heading into the new year, the Microsoft Office team is motivated more than ever by what we’re hearing about customers’ experiences with Office 2010. Many people think Office is just for the workplace, but millions of people are using Office at home, at school and for their small businesses to get things done. For instance:

Now that I’ve done a little research, I’ve started building out a SharePoint Scripting Resource Center. The SSRC is at the top of the site collection, and set to “Read Only” access for all users of the site collection. I used a SharePoint wiki site to build the interface for the center.
SP 2010: How To - Relational Lists in SharePoint 2010 (Tobias Zimmergren's thoughts on development) One of the new cool things in SharePoint 2010 is the fact that we now have relational lists. In my previous article about List Joins, I talked about how you programmatically can fetch and join information from more than one list with the improved SPQuery object. In this article I will give you an overview of what capabilities you get out of the box when installing SharePoint 2010 - in terms of relational data in lists.
