10 Steps to Optimize SharePoint Performance (Network World)
SharePoint, the fastest growing product in Microsoft's history, is used to store reams of documents, meaning application performance is a key component for successful SharePoint deployment and adoption. Here are 10 steps to improve the performance of your SharePoint servers.

Office/SharePoint and Google Apps: Skinning the Same Cat? (ZDNet)
My dad always used to say that there’s more than one way to skin a cat. Since I hate cats that resonated nicely with me.  Regardless of how I feel about felines however, it is one of those truisms that applies almost universally to meeting IT needs and requirements.

Office 2010 Sharpens Microsoft's Focus on Collaboration (GCN)
With its launch last week of Office 2010 – and its concurrent announcements of Office Web Apps and Office Mobile – Microsoft has made it clear that it understands the potential of anywhere, anytime computing. At the same time, the company has shown that it doesn’t intend to give up markets to competitors offering free, if watered-down, Web-based cloud applications. The lab took the new suite for a spin, seeking out and testing all of Office’s new features.

Navigating the Microsoft Office 2010 Versions Maze (CMS Wire)
Remember when there was just one version of Microsoft Office and it was darned expensive? Now there's a whole bunch of versions and prices to suit all levels of users.

Security and Office 2010 (PC Magazine)
Microsoft Office 2000, released over 10 years ago, was the last version for which security was not a large priority. Each successive version of Office has made significant improvements to the point where Office 2007 has, by any reasonable accounting, an excellent security record.

Six Misconceptions About Cloud Apps (ComputerWorld)
A look at cloud apps misconceptions related to performance, security, management, cost and the long-term effect on IT staffing. Cloud computing is all the rage in the IT industry these days, but there's still plenty of confusion about how cloud applications work and what kind of long-term impact they will have on business technology.

Will Microsoft Crumble In The New Era Of Tech Threats? (Ostatic)
Recently, numerous posts have been found on the web heralding the end of Microsoft, in a world where cloud-based initiatives are gaining traction, and Microsoft is seen as not grokking the cloud. One of the more visible of these arguments came from Marc Benioff, Salesforce.com's outspoken chairman and CEO, who was previously a top executive at Oracle. Benioff noted that Apple's market share is not far from Microsoft's, proclaimed that we are "entrenched in the world of Cloud 2," and pointed specifically to "the end of Microsoft." Neither the cloud nor Apple will erase Microsoft's own entrenchment so quickly, though, and part of the reason why has to do with prevalent plumbing, infrastructure and application needs at enterprises.

Google vs. Apple in the Battle of the Fanboys (CNET)
Something strange happened last week at Google I/O, Google's big developer event. Google may have attained cult status. There was an energy in the halls normally reserved for Apple events like WWDC, as 5,000 attendees chattered about Google TV, Android, WebM, and more.

Using Move-SPSite to Move Site Collections in SharePoint 2010 (Todd Klindt's SharePoint Admin Blog)
One of my most popular SharePoint 2007 blog posts is about using the STSADM operation mergecontentdbs to move site collections from one content database to another. It showed up in Service Pack 1 of SharePoint 2007 and made the process of shuffling site collections around much easier. Through service packs and cumulative updates it got stronger over the years. When SharePoint 2010 hit the streets our options got even better. Not only do we get mergecontentdb's direct replacement, Move-SPSite, but we also get a way to remove some of the need for its use in the first place. In SharePoint 2007 there was no way out of the box to create a new site collection in a specific content database that already existed.

Understanding List Performance In SharePoint 2010 (ARB Security Solutions)
There are many great improvements you will find with SharePoint Sever 2010. They make it a better experience for creating and then successfully using lists that are large in size. The problem with SharePoint Server 2007 was that you had to very carefully plan with it and then use a custom code. There were many operations unrestricted though so you could create lists and get some performance that was customized.

SharePoint 2010 Sandboxed Web Parts Does Not Support File Uploading (Wictor Wilén)
This is just a friendly reminder for you who tries to build a Sandboxed Web Part for SharePoint 2010 and trying to use the FileUpload or HtmlInputFile controls - it will not work. The uploaded files are not transferred to the sandboxed processes and cannot be used in the sandbox.

Code Access Security Policy Template for Visual Studio 2010 SharePoint Developer Tools (Waldek Mastykarz)
SharePoint 2010 ships with the Sandbox: a new concept that allows you to deploy solutions with limited trust. Still there are many scenarios to think of when you might need to deploy your work to the Web Application’s BIN directory. When doing that, you need to define for your assembly a CAS policy, which specifies what your code should and should not be allowed to do. While the contents of the policy always depend on your code, I have noticed that there are a few entries that are common for almost every solution deployed to the BIN directory.

Displaying Additional Key Metrics on the PM Central Portfolio Site By Adding Additional Columns to the Project Health List (The Bamboo Team Blog)
I'm sorry; that's a long blog title, especially so early on a Monday morning, but what can I say? I'm bringing the big guns today. PM Central's Project Health List displays important information about your project, including the project name, the start and end dates, who's managing the project, and the status of risks, issues or schedules, so that you can track and monitor your project with just a quick glance. But what if your organization needs to measure and track other key metrics? Is it possible to add those metrics and display them on your portfolio site? Yes, it is; you just need to make some additional customizations to your Project Health List.
