Real, Usable Access to SharePoint from Mobile Phones (Network World)
Apparently Microsoft Windows Phone 7 is going to support SharePoint natively. In other words, no more hokey web interface access to a product that is already a bit of a pain to navigate. If you’re like many people, your company uses SharePoint to organize data and projects. We do the same at our consulting firm. Instead of using a local NAS to store our internal and client documentation, we just create sites inside SharePoint and use that.

Steve Ballmer on the iPad: The Transcript (Fortune)
"We'll talk about slates and tablets and blah, blah, blah, blah." No, those aren't the notes of a reporter who couldn't keep up. That "blah, blah, blah, blah" -- taken from the official transcript of Microsoft's annual financial analysts meeting Thursday -- is how Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer introduced what he said was one of the top issues on his mind: the competitive threat of Apple's iPad.

Windows Phone 7 Devices by End of September? (ZDNet)
We’ve been hearing a lot about Windows Phone 7, but one thing that hasn’t been confirmed is when the devices will actually be available for purchase. While Microsoft isn’t stating official ship dates, it seems that LG is now on record saying that it will ship its first Windows Phone 7 device by end of September. LG is also stating that it’s going to have more Windows Phone 7 smartphones available before the end of the year.

Steve Ballmer Soothes Wall Street's Worries (Business Insider)
Steve Ballmer made a calm and collected presentation about Microsoft's consumer focused efforts to analysts today. The key points:

Internet Explorer 9 Beta Set for September (PC Pro)
Microsoft will unveil a beta version of Internet Explorer 9 in September, as the software giant attempts to stage a comeback in the browser market. The company has already released three technical previews of the next-generation browser, which are little more than a shell demonstrating improvements to the browser engine and its new-found affection for web standards.

Take That Google: Microsoft Hypes High-Profile Cloud Computing Customer Wins (Channel Web)
Fresh off of its cloud computing-heavy Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC), Microsoft on Thursday highlighted a trio of high-profile customers that have signed on to use the software giant's cloud computing services. Microsoft showcasing its increasing cloud customer list is also a jab at cloud competitor Google as the pair of powerhouses dukes it out on the cloud computing front in a battle of one-upmanship.

Defense Agency Expands Cloud Computing (Information Week)
The Defense Information Systems Agency, an agency that's already among the government leaders in cloud computing, is considering offering platform-as-a-service to other military agencies to complement the infrastructure-as-a-service that it already offers via its Rapid Access Computing Environment (RACE) private cloud.

SharePoint 2010 June 2010 Cumulative Update Installation Failed (Wictor Wilén)
I have been updating a couple of SharePoint 2010 servers and farms to the latest June 2010 Cumulative Update (CU) as well as installing a slipstreamed package. The slipstreamed install worked flawless using the same technique as with SharePoint 2007. But patching some of my servers seriously failed on both Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 with both SharePoint Foundation 2010 and SharePoint Server 2010. Here are some of my experiences of the patching.

Features of a SharePoint Learning Platform - VLE Integration (SharePoint in Education)
Another feature of a SharePoint Learning Platform is the integration of a VLE. The most common and best integrated solution for SharePoint is the SLK or SharePoint Learning Kit. This is currently being upgraded by the SLK co-coordinator Richard Willis for SharePoint 2010 and should be available in August.

How to Edit List Forms in SharePoint 2010 (SharePoint News, Views and "How To's")
In SharePoint 2007 there is a well known trick for opening up a list’s forms (New/View/Edit) in design mode – append ?ToolpaneView=2 onto the URL – this is often used to add instructions or JavaScript using a Content Editor Web Part (CEWP) e.g. •Showing a records ID on the View and Edit forms. •Setting a default duration for new SharePoint calendar events.

Guest Blog by Newsgator's Brian Kellner: Skate to Where the Puck is Going to Be (The Bamboo Team Blog)
I've seen a few versions of Wayne Gretzky's famous quote, but its essence is that anticipating, deciding, and moving quickly allows great players to make great plays. Like lots of good advice, it sounds pretty obvious when you hear it; but, if you've ever played a sport, you know that it's often quick and chaotic when you're on the actual field (or rink) of play. NewsGator has many of the same challenges - we're trying to deliver the right enterprise social computing features at the right time to SharePoint customers. We need to have software that fills specific gaps in SharePoint ready for the market right when the market needs it. Granted, SharePoint releases don't move at the speed of a star NHL defender, but NewsGator can't build Social Sites quite that fast either. Just like Gretzky, we need to anticipate, decide, and move quickly.
