"Bamboo World Tour" Day 3; IE9 to be Released March 14; Overthinking Governance Prevents Innovation

SharePoint Daily LogoPhase one of the Bamboo World Tour is now complete and our teams from La Jolla and Baltimore are on their way home. It sounds as though John managed to find his way from Sydney to Beijing and should begin posting updates shortly. OK, quick, unnecessary topic change... How many of you will be getting an iPad 2 this weekend? I've been debating picking up a Xoom, but the new iPad looks pretty sweet so I am looking for advice on which direction to go. --Chris

How SharePoint 2010 Can Be Used as a Collaboration Hub (CMSWire)
Collaboration, as we have seen this week, can take on many forms. A typical enterprise will own and maintain a number of different systems to help facilitate this collaboration. While many of these systems will serve a specific purpose, too many can be confusing, and actually prevent what they set out to achieve — working together effectively.

IT Managers Choosing SharePoint Over WordPress (CIO)
Despite an increase in popularity of WordPress, IT teams are still choosing to deploy SharePoint as an enterprise CMS, a local chief architect has claimed. SSW (Superior Software for Windows) chief architect, Adam Cogan, told the audience at the Australian SharePoint Conference in Sydney that despite many companies being unable to deploy SharePoint without adding extras like comment functions and spam filters, it is still preferred by CEOs and CIOs.

In an announcement on Wednesday, Microsoft said IE 9 downloads will be available starting 9 p.m. Pacific Time on March 14. That same day, Microsoft plans to hold a party for developers and designers at 9 p.m. at the Austin City Limits Live in Austin, Texas. Microsoft Tablets Can Learn From Apple, Motorola, Windows Phone 7 (eWeek)
Microsoft faces something of a battle royale in the tablet market. Apple’s iPad currently sells millions of units, and its rivals are making aggressive inroads with increasingly powerful Android offerings. Both Research In Motion and Hewlett-Packard are prepping tablets for launch in the next few quarters that will introduce new operating systems into the market, backed by millions of marketing dollars.

Taking Down the Apple and Google Smartphone Duopoly (CNNMoney)
If apps were taken out of the equation, would you consider buying a Palm Pre? What about a BlackBerry Torch? Or a Windows Phone? Today, a smartphone is really only as good as the applications that run on it. And despite what Nokia CEO Stephen Elop says, that battle has really become a two-horse race between Apple and Google.

Overthinking Governance Prevents Innovation (ComputerWorld)
Minimising overthinking of governance issues when deploying SharePoint is vital if CIOs are to achieve long term innovation, a SharePoint specialist has claimed. Speaking at the 2011 Australian SharePoint conference in Sydney, Seven Sigma’s managing partner, Paul Culmsee, told the predominantly development-focussed audience that if they spend 99 per cent of their time talking about time, cost and scope and 1 per cent looking at the legacy a project will achieve, they will be doomed to repeat the legacy they are trying to escape. “If you spend all your time talking about things from a rational manager’s point of view – it’s a failure,” he said.
