How Microsoft Partners Are Selling Office 365 (Redmond Channel Partner)
The release of Office 365 is arguably the most disruptive new offering to the Microsoft channel in recent memory and one that will change the way many partners sell messaging, collaboration, productivity and communications. Even if you continue to sell only the on premises-based versions of Exchange, SharePoint, Lync and Office, partners know they will have to have a discussion about Office 365 with their customers.

Microsoft's IE9 OS Gamble Paying Off? (PC Magazine)
Microsoft's Internet Explorer retained its browser dominance in July, followed by Mozilla's Firefox, but both saw a slight decline in the last month while Google's Chrome enjoyed a slight, incremental boost, according to data from Net Applications. Nonetheless, Microsoft touted the gains the latest version of its browser, IE9, has made in the business sector and on its latest OS, Windows 7.

Microsoft Curbs Wi-Fi Location Database (ZDNet)
Microsoft has ceased publishing the estimated locations of millions of laptops, cell phones, and other devices with Wi-Fi connections around the world after a CNET article on Friday highlighted privacy concerns. The decision to rework Live.com's geolocation service comes following scrutiny of the way Microsoft made available its database assembled by both Windows Phone 7 phones and what the company calls "managed driving" by Street View-like vehicles that record Wi-Fi signals accessible from public roads. Every Wi-Fi device has a unique ID, sometimes called a MAC address, that cannot normally be changed.

Report: Windows Phone 7 Revenue an 'Abysmal' $613 Million (CNET)
Microsoft's Windows Phone sales for 2011 are "abysmal," according to a story in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer published last Friday. Diving through Microsoft's annual report released late last month, the news site came up with a revenue figure of $613 million for the full fiscal year, which includes Windows Mobile, Windows Phone 7, Zune, Mediaroom, Surface, and hardware.

How the Cloud Has E-Discovery Covered (LTN)
Is the cloud just the internet? No way. In fact, the cloud is re-inventing electronic data discovery in marvelous new ways while most lawyers still grapple with the old. The cloud will make EDD easier and cheaper while improving the quality and efficiency of preservation, search, review and production. So what, exactly, is this amazing cloud? It's a buzzword for three on-demand service models delivered via a network (i.e., the internet). The name comes from depicting networks as a cloud on system schematics. There's so much cloud hype in the market that the three service models warrant brief explanation.

Adobe Edge: What You Need to Know (PCWorld)
Adobe released a preview of its upcoming Adobe Edge software Monday morning. But what exactly is this new program, and why are web developers so excited about it? Here's what you need to know. What is Adobe Edge? Edge is a new web development tool from Adobe that makes it easy to create animations and interactive websites with HTML5, the latest revision of HTML. HTML5 tries to add the interaction and multimedia we've come to expect from the web without forcing users to download plug-ins such as Microsoft Silverlight or Adobe Flash.

Process can Drive Content (Fierce Content Management)
While I was on vacation, I talked to my sister-in-law about a report she recently completed for her employer. Before she started the project--which she knew would be produced under a big time crunch--she sat down with each of her collaborators and talked to them about their work processes. She learned a lesson that we all may want to keep in mind: Process can drive content production in a big way.

SharePoint Developer Orientation - Part 2: Where do we fit in? (SharePointDevWiki)
SharePoint is for end-users… SharePoint was designed for end-users. Whatever accommodations have been made for developers have been slowly introduced and improved over the last decade. SharePoint 2010 is the first version that can pass as a development platform, in my opinion. While it pales in comparison to other development platforms in some respects, it far surpasses them in others.

On Gardens and Governance (3rd post) (The SharePoint Guys)
This is the third in a series of posts that uses the analogy of looking after a garden to explain why you should exercise governance over your SharePoint environment. Without some form of control over it, it will quickly deteriorate and end up as something that is neither a pleasure to use nor something from which you derive benefit. Without being expert gardeners or professional horticulturalists, we've simply stated that maintaining a garden consists of three core elements:

Microsoft Theme Builder: What does Everything do? (EndUserSharePoint)
I have become a firm believer in this wonderful tool. But with my blog posts, a lot of people have asked me “So what does each element do in SharePoint?”. So this is a post that will explain the blow by blow on each element we will use for SharePoint 2010. For SharePoint, we only work in the Colours and Fonts tab (the first one) – the rest of the tabs are meant for PowerPoint. Thanks to Raja Dandu and his blog post, which helped me to write this article.

Excel Services 2010 Data Refresh Flowchart: What is Going on Behind the Scenes (To the SharePoint)
Correctly configuring the data refresh in Excel Services in Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 can be challenging.  You need to make sure that Excel Services data is available to only those authorized while ensuring an incident free refresh of the data when opening a workbook. It is helpful to know what is going on behind the scenes in Excel Services at each decision point.  Each path leads to a choice. How are you authenticating?  Are you using Windows or SharePoint Secure Store?  Does an ODC exist? Is it in a trusted location?
