Moonlighting hasn't been the same since they recast Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd. - Dooley
Top News Stories Microsoft SharePoint 15: A 2012 Release Target, an App Marketplace and More (ZDNet) Since Microsoft announced the launch of its invitation-only test program for Office 15 in late January, things have been relatively quiet. But that doesn’t mean folks like me — and others — aren’t out there scouring the Internet for interesting tidbits. One of these people, “SharePointaholic” Bjorn Furuknap, a senior solutions architect and founder of USPJ Academy, an online SharePoint education company, has gone the extra mile.
SharePoint Online Increases Scalability, Promises More (CMSWire) SharePoint's got enterprise-level game, expanding its active directory entries from 20,000 to a whopping half-million user objects. That's the big news in the Microsoft SharePoint Team Blog today announcing the second update to SharePoint Online (SPO) since the launch of Office365. Microsoft is characterizing this as "Enterprise Readiness" and the company said, "As a result, customers of any size can easily start using SharePoint Online. And in the future, you can expect even larger scale limits."
Big Data in the Cloud (O'Reilly Radar) Big data and cloud technology go hand-in-hand. Big data needs clusters of servers for processing, which clouds can readily provide. So goes the marketing message, but what does that look like in reality? Both "cloud" and "big data" have broad definitions, obscured by considerable hype. This article breaks down the landscape as simply as possible, highlighting what's practical, and what's to come.
Windows 8 Will Deliver a Cloud Service to Rival or Beat iCloud (PCWorld) In Windows 8 Microsoft will merge its free online storage service SkyDrive and syncing software Mesh to provide the backbone for what looks to be a service that will rival or beat iCloud. In Windows 8, those tools together will automatically sync all your important files to the cloud, and then sync them to your devices. So if you write a Word document, for example, it will get sent to the cloud, and that document will then be available on a Windows Phone, a Windows 8 tablet, or other Windows 8 device. It will also be available from any Internet-connected device.
Oops! HTML5 Does It Again (Web 2.0 Journal) A multitude of security-related solutions rely upon the ability to extract and examine mime-objects from web-content. HTML5 may significantly impair their ability to do so. The tradeoff between security and performance has long been a known issue across IT organizations. One of the first things to go when performance is unacceptable is a security solution. This isn’t just an IT phenomenon either; consider how many of us have disabled endpoint security solutions like anti-virus scanners to improve performance?
Apple, Google Reach Privacy Deal, but is it Enough? (ComputerWorld) Apple, Google, Microsoft and three other major tech firms have agreed a deal which means in future apps on their platforms must "provide greater privacy disclosures" before downloading the software. Agreed with the State of California, the deal's a move in the right direction, but is it enough?
Around the Blogosphere Forefront Protection 2010 for SharePoint - Post Install Issue (From The Field) One of my customers recently deployed Forefront Protection 2010 for SharePoint to their SharePoint 2010 farm, the installation completed successfully – result! Although we now had a slight problem, each WFE has a non-SharePoint web site created in IIS; this is used purely by their monitoring system to check that IIS is up and running. When browsing to this “test” site the following error was being displayed:
SharePoint – Document and Records Management (Liam Cleary [SharePoint MVP]) Yesterday I presented a Virtual User Group meeting for www.thesug.org on Documents and Records Management. Based on this I thought it would be useful to recap my own thoughts on this and where SharePoint really stands. Firstly let's ask ourselves what is document management? In my mind this quote sums up what it is: "Document management controls the life cycle of documents in your organization, from how they are created, reviewed, and published, and how they are ultimately disposed of or retained as records".

Around Bamboo Nation Project Management Central Minor Release for R3.0: New In-place Upgrade to SharePoint 2010 Version, and Additional Workflow (The Bamboo Team Blog) I recently got around to finally sunsetting my old phone, choosing to refresh it with a new iPhone. Wow, there are so many cool things I can do with just a single touch. My iPhone experience reminds me of being able to take advantage of the features and capabilities that are offered in SharePoint 2010 as compared to SharePoint 2007. I'm pleased to announce that in the new minor release for PM Central R3.0, we provide the ability for you to do an in-place upgrade to move your content from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010 and not only take advantage of the features in SharePoint 2010, but also the essential features in PM Central R3.0. Furthermore, since most organizations need process and governance around their project site creation, we've added another workflow for a Project Site Creation Request via Workflow Conductor.

Microsoft Updates Building SharePoint Applications with InfoPath 2010 (Part 2 of 2) (MSDN) Now that you are familiar with some best practices in creating a SharePoint application that uses InfoPath 2010, it is time to apply what you have learned. This section is a walkthrough for a simple hardware request solution. In this scenario, the user fills out a request for one or more hardware components. The form template that is used identifies the requestor and an approver. By default, the approver is the requestor's manager. However, the requestor can select a different approver if they know that the manager will be unavailable. The requestor submits the form, which then triggers a workflow. In turn, the workflow notifies the approver that a new hardware request was submitted. For this walkthrough, you will design a form template, publish the template to a SharePoint Server, and then build a SharePoint Designer workflow that notifies the approver accordingly.
