Hey guys,

I indeed was very happy finding a way to have WSS running on my Vista machine to get rid of the damned virtual environment. I followed the installation instructions except installing MS SQL Express, as I already had SQL 2008 Developer Edition installed.

After the installation wizard finished, I clicked "Start Configuration" and the wizard crashed posting the following error msg.

The Microsoft SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard encountered an error and must close.  Launch the wizard again from the shortcut in the Start Menu.

So I did - getting this:

A failure occurred when accessing the registry entry SetupType located at registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\12.0\WSS.  Repair this product by selecting it from the Add/Remove Programs menu.

I stumbled through the registry and found that many keys are indeed missing.
Besides no Websites were created on my local IIS an I could not get to the point where the DB can be configured.
When playing around with Uninstall, Repair and Config Wizard I stumbled upon the error that the SSEE Service could not be started.

The Heck ^^ I selected Web FrontEnd Server.... why is this damned thing thinking it should start the WID ?

I am running Win Vista x86 Enterprise.

A little bit of additional info on what i figured out until now:
the Reg Key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\12.0\ Local was completely missing.... like others that I found to be missin in the sub hyph WSS. After adding the Location Key the Configuration Wizard started and began to create the databases on my system, but bailed that an unknown exception occured while creating the ConfigDB.

Task configdb has failed with an unknown exception

Any suggestions are quite welcome as having WSS on my Vista machine would really make me happy ;)

KHabel,

Did you select the "Advanced" option during install? On some occations I have had the install "crash" but I have always been able to just run the whole process again and it has been fixed.

Turn off any antivirus programs during the install.

Thanks

/Jonas
