Hi,
I just configured an evaluation copy of the Word to PDF converter. Everything appears to be OK, however I get a
and then in the list for failed conversions, I get the error message "Response is not well-formed XML." The document is a standard Word document for conversion with just text.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Hello jaywritermac,
Thank you for your interest in our PDF Conversion product! Commonly when you recieve a message like "Response is not well-formed XML" this means our NT services were unable to access the web service URL that you provided in the ConversionConfigurationList. An easy way to confirm that the connection is correct with no errors, go to the ConversionConfigurationList and click on the provided URL in the Web Service URL column. By the way, for 100% confirmation, this should be done on the server directly. For example:
I am almost positive you will see an IIS standard error page with either 401, 403 or 404 error. What you should see is this:
After resolving the expected IIS error message, give it about 2 minutes then it should successfully convert.
Hope this helps!

I can now see the Attach page. However, I receive the following error message after a "succeed" but error log generated message:
Can you logon to the server where you installed the conversion service. You should logon interactively as the user which you configured the service to run as.
Then start OpenOffice writer and try to manually export to PDF, this option is under the file menu.
Does this work?
Did you see any registration screens?
Thanks

This is the last message from the FailedConversions list:
I did a manual export with openOffice, which produced a PDF document. I opened up the PDF and it verifies the data. I did not see any registration screens.
And you logged on as the service identity?
After doing this do you still get the error when the conversion is run from SharePoint?
One more thing, is this the only document in your master list, or does some documents get converted?

I am logged into the server with the identity I used to set up the converter. Do I then have to set up OpenOffice to do the export to my SharePoint library? It does the conversion fine. This is my first test document, so no other files have been converted yet.
The only reason I want you to be logged in as that identity when you export the file is to make sure there are no problems with the user profile.
You don't have to configure anything, just make sure you can export that exact file manually.
It converts to PDF and exports to the server drive with no issues.
Thanks for the info.
If you run the conversion again, from withing SharePoint do you get the same error.
Do this:
1) Delete the error entry from FailedConversions
2) Edit a property of the document in the Master list.
I uploaded a new document and left the old one intact. This time it attempted to convert the 2 documents. I received the following error for both:
Thanks,
Can you do one reinstallation of the server part before we continue trouble shooting.
Sorry for the delay in responding, as I had another pressing issue pending. I am still receiving the error message. I uninstalled everything and reinstalled. First just the server part to test out and then the complete package. Below is the error detail:
I uploaded 2 documents this time, and the error message for the configuration list returned:
None of files converted in the library though.
Thanks for trying a reinstall.
I forgot to ask you if you run the conversion service on a 64 bit OS ?
Can you give me the exact OS version, and do you run the conversion service on a dedicated server or on the same server as SharePoint?
