I just installed the Alert Plus on my production server and had to change the web.config file to Full on the trust setting to avoid an error. Why was this required? I was getting a permissions error that I did not get on my development server so I wanted to know if there was somethign that could be done to avoid this and change it back to the prvious setting.
Hello? Is anyone working here? Can you please answer my question? Thanks!
We apologize for the delayed response. As it says in the Alert Plus Application Notes:
The Web Part is installed with a custom code access security file that allows you to run with the minimum security setting in your web.config.
It should not require full trust. Can you tell us more about the error messages you saw during your poduction server installation?
I get this error:
And this in the error log:
Log Name: ApplicationSource: Office SharePoint ServerDate: 1/27/2010 9:34:36 AMEvent ID: 5785Task Category: Publishing CacheLevel: ErrorKeywords: ClassicUser: N/AComputer: sbapsharepoint2.ad.corp.expertcity.comDescription:Unable to connect publishing custom string handler for output caching. IIS Instance Id is '917107260', Url is 'http://home/Bamboo.AlertPlusSubscriber/BambooAlertSubscriberService.asmx'.
This all worked just fine on my development system but not on my production box...I may need to uninstall, I don't trust this product now :( How do I get phone support?
This error is complaining about a list. It is important for us to know when you see the error - do you see it when you create a new alert against a specific list or do you see it when you drop the Alert Web Part on a web part page (before creating any alerts)?
If you see it when you configure an alert for a specific list, it probably has something to do with the list that contains the items that trigger the alert. This type of message is seen sometimes if the list has a custom column or if it has an Information Policy enabled. Is either the case with your list? If so, can you try creating an alert on another list that doesn't have any custom columns or info policy and see if the error appears?
We plan to use the Information Policy in the future, but currently do not have it enabled. This happens when I try to create a new alert after adding the web part. I have columns that are defined by content types, if that is what you mean by custom. I do not want a product that is so sensitive to my settings. We just bought this and now I am scared it will break something. What do I do next? How do I get real support?
The sensitivity in the Alert Plus Web Part in this case is because we deploy it with a custom code access security (CAS) policy. In your scenario, the CAS is doing the job we intend for it to do. There is something in the list you are trying to alert on that needs to access an assembly that it hasn't been given explicit permission to access. For example, if a list has a custom column from a 3rd party, when we try to get the list of columns for configuring the alert, we may need to access a 3rd party assembly. The CAS does not give permission to access that and that could cause the error you are seeing. If an information policy were enbabled, the same thing can happen.

Again, I have this working in my development environment and it is working with the same code and features. We have bought this product and I expect someone to get back to me to fix this soon.
I'm in the same position as Mr. Hikmer. We have two licenses and have not been able to get past this issue. I'll be following this thread to find out how to fix this problem.
These type of errors of types that need to be addressed by our Support Team. Please email Support@Bamboosolutions.com with the details of your configuration. When the cause of the issue is determined by our Support Team, we will post the result here.
I am waiting to hear back from your support, when I find my answer...I will post it.
Just as a follow-up, I could not get this product to work in my production environment becasue I had a custom solution running as a workflow. They do not disclaim that there are known issues when using custom code.
I have the same issue, does Bamboo have any solution on it ? or does it hava any work arround solution ?
My list is also running a workflow.
