  1. Can I use BDC Actions? I.e. have them appear as a drop down menu item on one of the columns like the BDC List web part?
  2. Can I show the number of items currently being displayed?
  3. When the page with the web part is opened, the Data-Viewer web part shows “No records to display” but it appears to be getting the data from the server. Then after a bit the data is displayed. (Although sometimes it never displays.) This is going to confuse the user as they won’t know what is going on. The little animation the BDC List web part does helps with this.
  4. The Back 1 Next control at the bottom shouldn’t be displayed when there isn’t data in the view or all the data available is visible in the view.
  5. When I drag a column title into the grouping area, the view appears to hang, but it comes back with the grouping. Again, some sort of animation so the user knows the web part hasn’t died would be a big improvement.
  6. After grouping, is there a way to show how many items are in the group like in a normal SharePoint view?
  7. When I group from the web part settings, the view doesn’t group. In fact, no data is displayed until I publish and then edit the page again. Unfortunately, after publishing again, no data  is displayed. Very strange.
  8. After grouping via the web part properties, it would be nice if that field could be removed from the tabular display. I.e. if I group by Country there is no need to show the Country in the list.
  9. Sometimes the painting is very bad. There are lines all over the place. (See below)
  10. Is the Excel export settings correct? I get a very strange error when doing it, but I can still open the file fine. (See below)
  11. And of course, it would be great to be able to connect filter web parts to this view…

Sorry one other note, Customer got around the BDC error above by manually entering the BDC name instead of trying the automated way by searching for the BDC.

Jeff,

I have answers on most of these questions from our engineering team.

1) Not at this time.

2) No, not at this point, but this can be added as an enhancement for the future - and we can add an option in tool part for this.

3) This is something that we have not run across before. We need to look more into this and duplicate this behavior.

4) This can also be fixed.

5) This is being considered as an enhancement and has been submitted to the product team.

6) Not yet.

7) I'm afraid that I dont understand whats happening here.

8-10) These look to be bugs - which should be fixed now -- we have a new version of this web part due out in about a week which should take care of these.

Jeff Kozloff:

When I try to configure Data-Viewer to BDC I recieve the following error:

The above issue is due to an expected safe control exists in the Web Config.  This safe control is added through the installation with MashPoint.  SInce MashPoint is not installed due to BDC being used, this Safe Control is not established in the Web.Config.  Bamboo will be releasing a new version of the Data-Viewer Web Part in the next few days and will offer an installation option to add this entry programically.  Until then, you can add the following line manually to your Web.Config file of your Web Application -

 <SafeControl Assembly="Bamboo.SharePoint.Portal, Version=0.5.2.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=2cc91efae2d531be" Namespace="Bamboo.SharePoint.Portal.WebControls" TypeName="*" Safe="True" />

*Note - there should be only one instance of Bamboo.SharePoint.Portal in your safe control of the Web.Config.

Thanks!
