A common question that the Sales Team here at Bamboo Solutions receives is, "What upgrade options are available to me with my purchase?"

In order to properly answer this question, let us first clarify the different stages of product releases.  When you first purchase a product, it is marked with a release version, for example, currently Calendar Plus Web Part is Release 2.4.

  • The first part of the release number is the current major release, in this case '2' means there has been 2 major releases of Calendar Plus Web Part.  A major release commonly means a new functionality has been added to the product.  If you currently purchased Calendar Plus Web Part Release 2.4 and Release 3.0 is now available, this is considered a major upgrade.
  • The second part is the minor release number, in this example 4 means there has been 4 minor releases of the product. Minor releases are commonly a collection of bug fixes and minor enhancements.  If you currently purchased Calendar Plus Web Part release 2.4 and release 2.5 is now available, this is considered a minor upgrade.
  • There is a third component that defines a specific releases for patch releases, for example 2.4.13.  These releases are not visibly described on our Storefront but can be tracked utilizing the provided release notes.  If you currently purchased Calendar Plus Web Part release 2.4.13 and release 2.4.14 is now available, this is considered a patch upgrade.

Now that we have an understanding of the different releases, let us review what your rights are for upgrades as a purchaser.  It comes down to what support plan (if any) was purchased.  I will review each below:

  • First 30 days after purchasing, if a minor or patch release is available, you have the right to retrieve this upgrade from the Storefront at no extra fee.  If a major release is available on the Storefront, you have the option to pay an upgrade fee for the major release, contact Sales for assistance.
  • After the first 30 days after purchasing, and if either no support is purchased or Basic Annual Support is purchased, you have the right to retrieve any minor or patch releases for upgrade from the Storefront.  Major releases are available after payment of an upgrade fee.  Contact Sales for further assistance.
  • If you have purchased Premium Annual Support, you have the same rights as above plus you receive free upgrades for major releases for a full year from date of purchase.  Sales will contact you with the proper upgrade license keys upon new major releases.

To retrieve an upgrade package, simply go to the appropriate product page on the Bamboo Storefront (http://store.bamboosolutions.com) and add to cart the Trial Download of the appropriate product.  Review the application notes for further instructions for upgrade.  Note, no settings are lost during the upgrade process.
