We are in the process of evaluating the use of SharePoint for hosting a change request application.  One of the primary application features we would like to implement is the ability to identify system dependencies between IT resources, applications and end users.

For example:  We would like to create a list of end users with three columns: The user groups, IT resources for which the group is dependent and the applications the groups uses - for example:

Accounting   -  SWITCH01, SWITCH02, SERVER01, SERVER02   -  DNS, DHCP, Email, SAP
Marketing    -   SWITCH02, SWITCH03, SERVER02, SERVER03   -  MS Office, VISIO, Email

We would like to be able to, for example, look up the DNS application and see all the user groups that use the app as well as all the servers on which it is hosted.  Conversely, look up SWITCH03 and see which users are dependent on its services as well as which apps.

Does the Cross List Web Part have the ability to create, view and maintain this level of relationship?

Do you want a list of end users or User Groups?

It sounds like an out-of-the-box (OOTB) SharePoint list with Lookup columns can help you manage these relationships?

Unfortunately, the Cross List Web Part is a retired product. It was retired because the OOTB SharePoint lookup columns now allow you to display other column values from the lookup list. See an example in the screen shot below.
