My organization is looking at the SCP to allow users to create their own project sites but at the same time we like to categorize the projects on a landing page as either department, organizational, etc.
Is it possible to customize the web part so that users are prompted to specify a category when creating a site? The information would then be used when adding an entry to the Link list.
Any help would be appreciated

Unfortunately this is not possible out of the box of the Site Creation Web Part. I have added your request for consideration in a future release however there are currently no plans within the next year to introduce any new functionality for this product. I'd also be interested in something like a Site Directory for WSS 3.0 that lets you filter by those various categories. We're going to try to roll our own if we can but it would be great to be able to purchase such a thing off the shelf.
If this option is not available, how does it have all the Project Health fields in PM Centrals use of the webpart?
