I'm running a 64-bit Windows 7 machine and attempting to install MOSS (w/SP1) and am running into some issues.

I installed the setup helper - which went into the Program Files (x86) directory.  Should it be in the Program Files location on the x64 machine or is there a 64-bit specific install I should be using?

I opened the command-line using Run-As Administrator and ran the SetupLauncher.  I select the (x64) Setup.exe from the extracted ISO I downloaded from MSDN which contains the x86 and x64 installations.  (I've tried both with the same results).  The first error I run into is:

"The language of this installation package is not supported by your system"

I am on an English machine and the ISO I'm using is the English ISO.  I read something on one of the many pages I've been looking at that made mention of ISOs possibly not extracting all the necessary files, specifically one that notes the language, etc... I haven't been able to find more inforamtion on this.

After I close this language message, I encounter the next error:

"Setup is unable to proceed due to the following error(s):
This 32-bit product must be run on a 32-bit Operating System.  For 64-bit support, please install the 64-bit version of this product.
Correct the issues(s) listed above and re-run setup."

I'm pretty sure this is the SharePoint install reporting this, but the fact that the 'helper' file is 32-bit makes me pause. Again, I am on a 64-bit OS and running the x64 Setup.exe.  (but have also tried the x86 just for kicks)
Once this window is closed, there is also an error reported in the command-line window:
"Exit code 30066"
Which I'm pretty sure just means that it didn't work.
Any help is appreciated.  I would very much like to get this running on my OS for a demo early this coming week rather than on a virtual.  :)
Thank you!

Got past the language issue.  The ISO extract method I was using apparently trimmed the file and folder sizes to something that the setup didn't like.  There are 'en' chunks in the folder names, etc...

Still working on the 32/64 issue.  It may be something about IIS, or .NET or something that is running in 32-bit emulation where it should be 64-bit.  Still searching...

WPreston,

The setup helper is a 32bit progam and it works on both 32 and 64bit systems.

Use the slip-streamed MOSS/SP1 setup that you can download from MSDN.

Download it here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=3015FDE4-85F6-4CBC-812D-55701FBFB563&displaylang=en

Delete the folder %TEMP%\xtracted to make sure you have a clean system.

Thanks

/Jonas

Dear Jonas,

Thank you for the time you spend on helping.

Unfortunately, using the slipstream does not solve. I've spent 3 or 4 hours trying several options with the slipstream versions of either Sharepoint Services 3.0 x64, Sharepoint 3.0 Services x64 with SP1 as well as "Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 Trial Version (x64)", removing the %temp%\xtracted folder between each attempt but always end with "Compatibility Issue" windows message. The very frustrating is that each setup program refer to a Knowledge Base Article which is not available on Microsoft sites.

Do you know someone who has really been able to install on Windows 7 x64? Maybe the build has an impact. I am using Windows 7, build 7057.

I also have Visual Studio 2008 installed.

Any Idea?

Thanks again for your time.

This worked for me.  I used the Standard edition  and the Basic (not advanced) setup.  I am using build 7000.  Ran the WSS install helper as Admin.

I4OH,

In the newer betas and the RC they block MOSS using App compatibility. What you have to do is temorarily turn off App compatibility using the Group Policy editor. Make sure to turn it back on after installing MOSS.

Hi, thanks for the detailed install instructions and to all that have helped create this. However, it seems I am unique with my problem for I have not seen anyone with a similar situation: I have followed the instructions on a 32 bit install, but when I run the SetupLauncher I get the following:

Any comments/suggestions?

Hi Jonas,

I have Windows VistaSP2 & have been trying to install MOSS 2007SP1 on my system & everything seems to work correctly except that when I get to the Central Admin console, I get this:

2728.CentralAmin2.docx

instead of this:

1057.CentralAmin1.docx

Because of this I'm unable to carry out deployment of servers because of the missing Services in Server 'link'.

Please HELP.

Ps. I did a complete installation.

Thanks.
