I don't know if there is any way to have the list "hide" items that users can't access? We have setup the Global Navigator bar replacing the Master Page for our SharePoint 2010 Enterprise Edition SP1 site. Users browse for the server and select the Site and subsite in which they want to navigate to. Unfortunately many are trying to go to Executive and HR and Finance. A majority of the subsites and sites are not for "prying eyes." Is there a way to "hide" these list items from being visible?
You can set permissions using SharePoint method to allow only users with permission to the item to see the tab.
In the navigators list, select the item that you want to hide. Click on Manage Permissions, click Stop Inheriting Permissions. Remove the users/groups that shouldn't have access. Add users/groups that you want to give access. When users log on to the site, they will not see if they don't have access.
